Company

"Mmmh Exquisa… keiner schmeckt mir so wie dieser" – you won't find many people in the German-speaking region, who can't sing or at least hum the melody of this popular jingle! Karwendel-Werke Huber, a family-owned and operated company headquartered in Buchloe in the lovely Allgäu region of Germany is the mastermind behind the popular brand. Karwendel is one of the best known dairies in Germany, and can proudly look back on over 100 years of company history and tradition. The company employs 450 staff including more than 30 trainees, and generates an annual turnover of around 421 million euros (2014). Dr. Wilfried Huber represents the third generation at the helm of the company.

The largest part of the company’s turnover is generated by their cream cheese products. These were the first to make the brand Exquisa a household name. Over the years, Karwendel has continued to create ever new and delicious products, like the "Exquisa Slices of Soft Cheese" in 2005, which were not only a technological masterpiece, but also a true innovation for the food sector. Exquisa has become just as strong a brand with their fromage frais and soft cheese range, and their "Fruit & Fromage Frais Yogurt" in the 500g tub is Germany's number one top seller of all brands. The Karwendel fromage frais and soft cheese varieties are manufactured exclusively in Germany – and around one quarter of these products are sold across Europe.

More than a specialist for fromage frais and cream cheese:

The company's economic use of water and energy is an important cornerstone of the company philosophy. Short transport routes from the 730 regional dairy farms – some of which have been delivering their top quality milk for three generations to Karwendel – and state-of-the-art technology ensures the careful use of natural resources and also guarantees perfectly fresh products. An extensive training program underlines the company's social responsibility in the region: Up to twelve young people begin their apprenticeships at Karwendel each year. In addition to Karwendel's importance as an employer in the region, the company also supports regional and national projects in the social sphere. Karwendel is an avid supporter and sponsor of various athletic disciplines, including cycling, gymnastics, football and volleyball in the region, and was the initiator and sponsor of the "Healthy Breakfast" campaign in childcare facilities and schools.
